MMA Series heavyweight champion Dimitriy Andryushko has weighed in on the UFC’s decision to book a heavyweight title fight between Ciryl Gane and Josh Hokit.

Andryushko believes Russian heavyweight Alexander Volkov also deserved an opportunity to compete for the championship. In his view, the UFC may have considered not only sporting merit but also the commercial appeal of the matchup when deciding who would fight for the title.

“It feels like the UFC no longer wants to see Russian champions. Alexander Volkov isn’t even being given a chance to fight for the title.

“As for the fight between Ciryl Gane and Josh Hokit, I think the promotion is primarily looking at it from a business perspective. The UFC is focused on monetization and which matchup can generate more revenue. In my opinion, that’s why they chose this fight,” Andryushko said.

Gane will make the first defense of his UFC heavyweight title against Hokit in the main event of UFC 334. The event is scheduled to take place in the early hours of Nov. 14.
